Our largest classes have 72 students maximum, though 40-50 is typically the largest. Of course, physics is still occasionally a hair-raising experience...
Introductory labs are 24 students or less and they are taught by faculty.
Physics and pre-engineering classes beyond the introductory level average 6-10 students.
Advanced laboratory classes include individual experiments and projects.
All of our majors conduct research with a faculty mentor -- some students even develop their own projects. Students may choose theoretical, experimental, or computational projects.
Physics maintains a physics-dedicated computer lab, including both PC's and Mac's. Alongside a full range of standard office and internet software, compilers for languages such as Fortran and C/C++ are available, as well as advanced data-processing software such as Mathematica, IDL,and Sigma plot. Some introductory labs are computer-based.
